Elsy Montalvo

Elsy is the Spanish Teacher at Lakehills Montessori Austin Campus.

I was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz  (Mexico). I went to Law School  at Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana in Mexico City ( 1987-1991). I worked for the General Attorney’s Office and for PEMEX-PETROQUIMICA as a Legal Assistant.

My Mom is a very strong lady that gave me all the love and dedication. She was always keeping me busy taking private English Classes, Oriental Dance, Hawaiian Dance, etc. My Dad was a hard worker and had a career at the Mexican army but always had time for his family. Unfortunately, he passed away about 15 years ago because of Diabetes disease. I only have a younger brother who is my best friend and I’m proud of him. My grandmother, who died 2 years ago, was a Certified Elementary Teacher for 30 years. She loved her career and enjoyed working with children. She was a devoted Teacher and showed me how to be patient and organized. I was her assistant during the afternoons and during Summer School too. And She encouraged me to become a Teacher some day. So, when I was living in Mexico City, I met some people from Germany and London who wanted to learn Spanish, so, that was my first opportunity and challenge to help those friends including their children. I really enjoyed that time teaching especially with the children because they were caring, honest, innocent, and fun.

I got married and moved to America 12 years ago and didn’t work.  I couldn’t afford to go back to College and become an Attorney here, so, I worked as a bilingual Customer Service for a while, and then by chance I met a person that worked for the Hispanic Radio industry and offered me a job as a DJ (on Air Personality) recording, producing and editing commercials and having a daily talk show in the international/romantic Music format. I worked in Univision Radio until 2008. After my daughter was born  I decided to get a Paraprofessional Certificate and become a Spanish Teacher, so I could spend quality time with my daughter (6 yrs old) and help other kids in learn my Language, and share my Mexican and Latin America culture. I began working at lakehills Montessori over a year ago and have loved every minute of it.
