Mercedes Hustad

Mercedes Hustad is the Lead Teacher of the Young Primary at Lakehills Montessori. She was previously the Assistant Young Primary at Lakehills Montessori Bee Cave Campus.

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru.  After studying in Peru, Mexico and United States,  I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

I first learned about Maria Montessori because my husband and I were looking for a Primary school for our son Jason.  We enrolled him in a very good Montessori school in Las Vegas.Over time, I participated as a volunteer parent in a number of roles.  I fell in love with the Montessori Method since the first time I heard about it.

In 2005, I was offered a position at the same school my son was attending, as a Spanish teacher for the Lower and Upper Elementary classrooms.

A year later, I became the Co-lead in one of the Lower Elementary classrooms, where a Dual language program was implemented.

In 2007, my family and I moved to Reno and began looking into local Montessori schools and I found a very good AMI Montessori school where I worked for three years as a Primary Assistant.

Because of the bad economy in Nevada, last summer we decided to move to Austin, where Lake Hills Montessori opened its doors to me.  I joined the LHM Bee Cave team as a Young Primary Assistant.

This year I decided to pursue my 0-3 years old Montessori certification because I think that Montessori Philosophy respects and understands the mental, emotional, social and physical development of children and I wanted to become a part of children’s learning process, a part of that incredible journey.

This summer I was given the opportunity to have my own classroom in the Cuernavaca location.  I really enjoy every single minute of it. I’m very glad I met so many wonderful families.

Just a little bit about my personal life.  I have been married for 14 years to my husband Andy and we have two wonderful children, Jason who is 13 years old (the athlete) and Tyler who is 10 years old (my baby and the comedian).  I enjoy spending my free time with my family and also I enjoy beading.
