Yolanda Romanelli

Yolanda Romanelli is the Primary II Teacher Assistant.

I was born on 1986 in Alamogordo, NM, where I spent the first 9 years of my life. I then moved to Abilene, TX in August 2010, three days after graduating from Abilene Christian University, I immediately moved to Austin. Since I have been here I have fallen head-over-heels for this city and all the people who occupy it. My passions include playing flute and guitar, tennis, yoga, children and writing creative nonfiction essays.

I have been through a plethora of different career options and occupations, and it is only now at Lake Hills Montessori that I feel I have finally found my niche. I started off the first 3.5 years of my college career as a pre-med student and was accepted into medical school. To my family’s dismay, I decided the life of a doctor wasn’t the life for me. I continued on to several different options I thought might still appease my family: I was pre-dental, then pre-law, I even got certified to teach middle school math in Texas public schools. Through all these different career paths I felt lost and couldn’t understand why nothing felt right–then I found Lake Hills Montessori.

I started at Lake Hills Montessori as a substitute teacher. It began as just a second job, but very quickly it became a massive part of me. I had never considered working with small children, and I never thought it would be something that just came naturally for me. After working at the school for a just a few days, I felt more right with my being than I had ever felt with any other job. Every day working with these amazing children inspires in me this overwhelming desire to be in this place and to do everything I can to help these children grow. My new career path is now towards getting Montessori certified and my Masters in Montessori education.
